Life in a Green World, on a Blue Planet

Summer is already here it seems. This has been the most beautiful spring and now summer blooms have begun!  Lily buds are swelling and soon we shall see orange and blue throughout the garden.

Our food garden is enjoying the heat and abundant sunshine. A few weeks ago we bought grow bags for tomatoes and patty pan squash. They are doing great. No pests have discovered them. The strawberries on the other hand are growing a lot and each plant has a few berries, which are starting to ripen now, but some little critter is beating us to the ripe ones. I'm going to have to figure this out soon.
A deer was munching on the other raised bed of strawberries, but I fixed that problem by putting bird netting taut over the berries.

I filled our cold frame with compost that we made from just leaves and clippings. I planted lettuce, chives, snow peas and lemon cucumber in there. It's been a few weeks and everything has grown so much.

We started a few trays of micro greens. Radish greens will be the first to harvest in just a couple more days.

Our garden has been buzzing with many bees, mostly bumble bees in spring, honey bees are just showing up now. A lot of the bumble bees have been lethargic and dazed, rolling around on the ground, because they are infected with mites.
