White Winter Days
As I make my way through the garden, snow crunching underneath my boots, it is so quiet and still, i feel i can hear for miles. Steller's Jays have stopped by for a few days during this rare snow storm, half a dozen of them, darting all around. We've found them amusing, and quite noisy, too. The rain has returned and the snow is melting, but not quick enough. We were stuck for a couple days, since our road is private, there was no snow plowing done for us. Luckily, one of our neighbors has a tractor and cleared the road. Even though we only received 2.5 feet of snow, it was enough to "snow us in" lol, I truly chuckle when I say that. It's such a rare occurrence here. It was lovely, and the kids really enjoyed sledding, but I am glad it doesn't snow here regularly. I'm definitely a lover of the mist and rain. We managed to save our Bay tree from breaking out, by knocking off the snow about 5 times, but unfortunately many lilacs & Japanese maples were so top heavy and I couldn't get to them in time to knock the snow off of them, that they broke. They are still alive and will be OK, but they are a bit lopsided now. A couple springs and summers and they will be back to normal again. Once this snow is melted I have a lot of work to do around here to get ready for spring <3.
